Bloods tests: can be used to look at various problems such as anaemias, diabetes (sugar) screening, kidney testing, liver testing, thyroid gland testing, prostate gland testing, hormonal screening, lipid testing (fats like cholesterol) and many other areas.
Blood tests can be used either as a screening tool for general health checks,measure to confirm the absense of a specific medical problem, when reassurance is required, to confirm a diagnosis which is suspected clinically or to monitor progress of a disease or effects of treatment.
Therefore, it is not possible to list all possible blood tests and their uses but many different elements of blood cell structure and function, body biochemistry, minerals, antibodies and other elements can be quantified.
A blood test is usually quick and causes only a minor pin prick like discomfort. Very occasionally, a bruise may appear at the puncture site after a blood test which resolves within a few days.
