CT/CAT Scans (Computerised Tomograghy)

These investigations provide detailed 2-dimensionsal or 3-dimenional images or virtually any part of the body, from internal organs such as the brain, lungs or liver to joints such as the spine, knee or shoulder and any other area.
These detailed images are vital for accurate assessments and diagnoses and to stage or catagorise the extent or spread of disease such as cancer.
However, these tests require exposure to high levels of radiation and so are generally requested by and interpreted by experts and specialists in particular fields of medicine or surgery.
As they are non-invasive in themselves, CT images are very useful in making the case for or against an operation.
