Description of Institut Calot

Institut Callot in Berck provides Globe Health Tours patients with access to outstanding medical skills for total knee replacements and total hip replacements including hip replacement revision surgery for patients with long term prostheses that are failing.

The surgeons can perform unilateral and bilateral surgeries and have theatres specifically designed to provide maximum support to clinical staff as they undertake these common but still highly complex surgeries.

All surgeries are typically carried out using minimal invasive techniques that are designed to offer patients the chance of a quick recovery from surgery and surgical trauma associated with major surgery.

The hospital typically uses "cell saver" technology to reduce the need for any blood plasma products. Cell Saver technology collects blood from the patient during surgery, treats the blood and then returns it to the patient. The patient does not need any plasma or infusion and also loses no blood during the procedure.

Managing Infections

Patients who test positive for infections are operated on in a separate wing designed to protect the clinic from hospital borne infections such as MRSA. This separate infection ward is housed in a separate building and has its own staff, physician and operating theatre. All patients are routinely tested for infections. This policy of exclusion enables the clinic to experience minimal hospital infection rates. This is especially important to UK patients.

Recuperation:

Physiotherapy is offered in the recuperation centre down the beach from the main hospital building. This enables patients to undertake recuperation under the care of the team and enjoy the startling views of the Channel and the long sandy beach. Typically patients spend 7 to 10 days under the physio care before returning home.
