This is a procedure to change the shape or size of the nose. Although mainly a cosmetic procedure, sometimes this can also be used to relieve nasal blockage and snoring.
Description
A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that alters the structure of the nose to improve its appearance or to correct a deformity which may be part of your natural development or as a result of trauma or injury. Because your nose continues to develop until the mid-teen years, this operation is not usually recomended until 16 years of age.
Incisions are made within the nose via the nostrils to avoid visible scars. The septum may be altered if breathing is blocked and the cartilage and bone are then reshaped.
If the nose requires to be built up because it is flat, implants can be inserted (augmentation rhinoplasty).
The nose is then finally splinted into position for about 10 days.
